The Ranch is a special place, unique to the San Francisco Bay Area. Nestled at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains, overlooking An᷉o Nuevo Island and the Pacific Ocean, the Ranch is located along a strip of California’s most pristine coastline. California State Parks has described this coastline, and An᷉o Nuevo State Reserve, as “embracing outstanding natural and scenic characteristics of statewide significance.” The area has also been designated a “National Natural Landmark” by the U.S. Dept. of Interior.
When you escape to the ranch, you’re within a scenic coastal zone featuring working ranches, farms, beaches, parks, and quaint towns. After leaving the urban area and your 7 million neighbors, one arrives at a place that is home to more varieties of wildlife and flora than people. At the Ranch, you’re truly out of the rat race and in the country.
In describing the area, California State Parks and Recreation noted “Visitors enjoy…some of the most spectacular and extraordinary panoramic vistas found anywhere along the coast of California. This sense of remoteness and wildness so near a major metropolitan area is found nowhere else in the state”.
Important for those who want to be close, avoiding a long bumper-to-bumper commute, the Ranch is centrally located in the Bay Area. Easy to get to, the Ranch is within a 45 mile radius of the Bay Areas urban areas, including San Francisco, San Jose, the Peninsula, Santa Cruz, Carmel, Monterey and both international airports.
At the Ranch you’re so close, and yet, so far away.
A visit to the Ranch is a peaceful and relaxing experience. You’ll be refreshed with the clear star-studded night skies, stunning sunsets, fresh air and beautiful mountain range and ocean vistas. Chirping Birds, hooting owls, woodpeckers pecking, hawks soaring above, and the barks of mating elephant seals also greet our guests.
The sunny weather at the Ranch is also special. The San Mateo coast, including Half Moon Bay and even Pescadero, is known for its frequent foggy conditions. Fortunately, the Ranch’s location at the lower Santa Cruz mountains, past the plains to the north, provides a microclimate that is generally fog free. When you arrive at the ranch you most likely will be greeted with sunshine and a warmer, mediterranean type climate than other areas of the Bay Area coast.
The ranch offers a wealth of things to do, including activities in the surrounding parks, which have over 18,000 acres and 80 miles of trails, at one of the 8 local beaches or, if you are a cyclist, biking along the Coastal Highway. We can have equipment delivered to the ranch for just about any activity you want to enjoy at the surrounding parks and beaches. For teambuilding activities, we can arrange a coach to organize these, or source equipment for your own needs.
