The Ranch

The Ranch is a special place, unique to the San Francisco Bay Area.  Nestled at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains, overlooking An᷉o Nuevo Island and the Pacific Ocean, the Ranch is located along a strip of California’s most pristine coastline.   California State Parks has described this coastline, and An᷉o Nuevo State Reserve, as “embracing outstanding natural and scenic characteristics of statewide significance.”  The area has also been designated a “National Natural Landmark” by the U.S. Dept. of Interior.

When you escape to the ranch, you’re within a scenic coastal zone featuring working ranches, farms, beaches, parks, and quaint towns. After leaving the urban area and your 7 million neighbors, one arrives at a place that is home to more varieties of wildlife and flora than people.  At the Ranch, you’re truly out of the rat race and in the country.

In describing the area, California State Parks and Recreation noted “Visitors enjoy…some of the most spectacular and extraordinary panoramic vistas found anywhere along the coast of California.  This sense of remoteness and wildness so near a major metropolitan area is found nowhere else in the state”.

Important for those who want to be close, avoiding a long bumper-to-bumper commute, the Ranch is centrally located in the Bay Area.  Easy to get to, the Ranch is within a 45 mile radius of the Bay Areas urban areas, including San Francisco, San Jose, the Peninsula, Santa Cruz, Carmel, Monterey and both international airports.

At the Ranch you’re so close, and yet, so far away.

A visit to the Ranch is a peaceful and relaxing experience.  You’ll be refreshed with the clear star-studded night skies, stunning sunsets, fresh air and beautiful mountain range and ocean vistas.  Chirping Birds, hooting owls, woodpeckers pecking, hawks soaring above, and the barks of mating elephant seals also greet our guests.

The sunny weather at the Ranch is also special. The San Mateo coast, including Half Moon Bay and even Pescadero, is known for its frequent foggy conditions.  Fortunately, the Ranch’s location at the lower Santa Cruz mountains, past the plains to the north, provides a microclimate that is generally fog free.  When you arrive at the ranch you most likely will be greeted with sunshine and a warmer, mediterranean type climate than other areas of the Bay Area coast.

The ranch offers a wealth of things to do, including activities in the surrounding parks, which have over 18,000 acres and 80 miles of trails, at one of the 8 local beaches or, if you are a cyclist, biking along the Coastal Highway. We can have equipment delivered to the ranch for just about any activity you want to enjoy at the surrounding parks and beaches.  For teambuilding activities, we can arrange a coach to organize these, or source equipment for your own needs.

Newly built, the home is a stone and timber mountain style home, offering the warmth you might find in a ski resort but with the amenities of a five star hotel. The exterior is Montana stone with crafted hand hewn beams.  The interior features custom designed wood moldings and beams, superb craftsmanship, the latest technology, and the finest features.

The home is over 13,000 square feet, and features a 3,000 square foot wrap around IPE deck and a 4,000 square foot terrace, all set on 50 acres.  There is also a 7,000 square foot sports court, which can be tented, for ball game and other activities.  This area can also be tented for larger groups needing space for award ceremonies, presentations, and dining space.

The home has 7 bedrooms with en-suite baths (if needed, additional hotel rooms are available locally), 2 wood burning and 4 gas fireplaces, a gourmet kitchen, formal dining room, 3 family rooms (one of which can serve as a second dining room seating 25-30 people),an exercise room with sauna and steam bath, a media/conference room, bar with billiard table, and 2 laundries.  Internet service is provided, and each room has a separate door to the outside, its own satellite TV feed, individual climate control, deadbolts and accoustical treatment.  Sign in here to view the Lodge’s interior floor plan and an interactive image gallery.

For conferences and meetings, the Lodge has two internal conference rooms which can each seat a 24-30 people.  Outside, the 3,000 sf deck, the 5,000 sf terrace, and the 7,000 sf sports court can accommodate a larger number of people.

Additional overnight accommodations are available less than 1 mile north and at the Ritz Carlton, about 25 miles north in Half Moon Bay. Pescadero is home to Duarte’s, an iconic tavern and restaurant famous for their cioppino, and Arcangeli’s Country Bakery, famous for their garlic artichoke bread. Both Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz offer a wide variety of dining, as well as groceries and other services.
